Having recently purchased a shiny Land Rover, I was a little surprised when Andre first approached Dad asking when he would next be planning an off-road trip to Wales. Of course needing no excuse to trek through the Welsh wilderness the trip was quickly organised a few weeks later. I have been on a few day trips to the Devils Pit since the family Land Rover obsession began, but have never actually taken part in real green laning. So when I was asked if I wanted to come along I thought, what the heck, it’s time to find out what all the fuss is about! I made sure I packed all the appropriate camera equipment; lenses, tripods etc as I figured this would be the only way I could probably make myself useful by documenting our trip.

Wales – November 2010
It was quite a surprise when out of the blue Mark one Tuesday said “I’m holiday this week could you take me on an off-road trip”. As I had offered to take him several times before, I could hardly refuse. I quickly called around all the usual suspects to find out who was available. With exception of Jamie everybody else was not available at such short notice. I then started frantically e-mailing to try and find accommodation for 3. In the end I found two locations offering B&B for the Thursday night. I settled on the Abbey Grange Hotel in Llangollen. I arranged to meet Mark and Jamie at 9 o’clock on the Thursday Morning. here was no time to even put decent tyres on the 3 door Discovery. I had loaded up the car with 2 Hi-lift jacks and a selection of wooden chocks, strops, shackles, chains and ropes. The car is pretty much bog standard and is a basic model, it’s even got manual windows.

Green laning trip to Wales March 2009
Phil, David and I decided it would be a good idea to take some time out for a bit of R & R and a few days green laning seemed the ideal solution. Another trip to Wales seemed to offer all we needed. As David was disappearing off on a round the world trip at the end of April it had to be done soon. We decided B&B rather than self catering to allow us more time out and about. After a bit of surfing I found a B&B in Llanfyllin at a place called “The-Green-Door”, after a quick phone call and an E-mail I had booked accommodation for the 10th and 11th March 2009.

Birthday weekender in Wales, 2006
Wales – December 2006
As it was Phil’s birthday we had decided to spend the weekend in Wales for a bit of off-roading. We decided we would go back and try Llanerchindda farm (the last time we tried foot and mouth was declared the day we arrived). So I contacted them via E-mail and received a reply almost by return. I found that there were new owners, previously it had been owned and run by Nick “lets mortar a few sheep” Boynton but its now owned by Martin & lynne Haddley and their 2 sons Mark and Andrew.

Greenlaning weekend in Wales, Feb 2002
Friday
It’s 8th February and it’s 5 o’clock in the morning, time to get up and go. After all the frantic organising over the last few weeks it’s finally time to set off again for mid Wales. I had arranged to meet the 110 at Sainsbury’s Savacenter on the M25 at junction 22 at 5:30 a.m., guess I’m late already! After a quick shower and a few hurried goodbyes it’s off like a bat out of hell in the Rangie. Our party consists of 3 vehicles a 1976 Series III SWB diesel, a 1984 110 3.5V8 Station wagon and 1982 3.5V8 Range Rover and 7 people.
